Best Treatment for Tennis Elbow?

We are polling people to figure out the best treatment for a patient with 3 months of tennis elbow pain (lateral epicondylitis). The patient is a healthy 42 year old female who plays 2-3 hours per week and can no longer participate. Her pain now occurs even with activities of daily living such as driving. Please vote in the poll on this blog.

I have had the same condition for over six months and wish that I could have been treated with PRP a lot earlier. My condition is fairly chronic and it hurts to do everything. I'm three weeks post-PRP and am still in a lot of pain but it is starting to feel a bit stronger. I feel that if I were able to have the treatment earlier, perhaps my recovery time would be shorter.

At this point I have just gone round 2 with PRP. Round one did nothing. Round 2 is actually causing more pain in my elbow and surrounding area. I have been told that this procedure may be done 3 time at 2 month intervals. I have been told by my doctor that my tendonitis is the second worst case he has ever seen. Since I do not want to go under the knife I am hoping that round 2 or 3 will provide relief since this is a painful process. -- I have been dealing with this for 8 months with no results --

I have had rotator cuff surgery twice on my left shoulder. Now my right shoulder has a tear and I have a two tears in my right elbow (tennis and golfer's elbow). All confirmed by MRI. I have started the PRP treatment. First treatment was in early December 2008 which seemed to have no positive results. It was painful but only lasted a few days. My second treatment was Jan. 14, 2009. This time it included my shoulder as well. It is now one week later. This treatment seems to be more painful and longer lasting. I hope to see some positive results at least for my elbow being treated twice. This is very expensive (not cover by health plan) about $600 per treatment. It will be worth it if I can avoid surgery.

well I've have had tennis elbow or what I would like to call fisher mens elbow for 2 yrs now. I've had approx 8 cortisone shot in this piont. Now I'm at the piont of surgery, but I considering the PRP injection. My insurance will not pay for the injection, but with a $500 deduction the shot in cheaper.

My doctor tell me ,that only one shot is needed. But after reading the post here ,I think the surgery maybe the way to go.

I have had lateral & medial tendonitis in both elbows for 2 years. After 6-8 rounds of cortisone, Dr. agreed to PRP in lateral left elbow. I am one week out and still in a good bit of pain with no improvement yet. Dr. swore I could return to regular activity (typing) 3 days after procedure, but this only aggravates the area! I don't think there is enough common info available for patients who go through this procedure. If I don't see improvement in 6 weeks as promised will consider surgery.

I have had right tenis elbow for 6 years now. But mine would only flare up in the summer time when I would work out and play golf at the same time alot. I received a cortizone shot every year for 5 years which fixed it for that year. this year I got 2 cortizone inj. and it got even worst. I babied my arm for 2 months no golf, no gym. Just got prp injection. $130 total with bcbs of florida. $30 co-pay for doc. And $100 co-pay for out patient surgery center. Not bad after reading some other posts. But on second day now. cant tell whats goin on due to the fact that it hurt like hell so im just staying nice and comfy with the pain meds. wish me luck.

Some really useful slides here. I've been looking for something like this to help with a research piece I've been working on.
